Author, Outsourcing to India: The Offshore Advantage

Mark Kobayashi-Hillary is author of Outsourcing to India: The Offshore Advantage, published by Springer-Verlag (Feb 2004). The book is a primer for European and American managers interested in the process of outsourcing business processes to India. It introduces the culture, history and politics of India.
Mark started outsourcing software development services within the UK back in 1996 when he was one-third of a start-up financial services software house. And in 1998 he began working with offshore resources in Singapore as the global head of equity trading systems technology for French bank Société Générale. When Société Générale created a global software development center in Bangalore, Mark evangelized the benefits of India to others in the organization and closed his Singapore operation - transferring all operations to India. His Bangalore team led the drive to become ISO9001 certified within a year of establishing the office.
Until July 2003, Mark was the European Programmer Manager for equity trading and settlement technology at Sanford C. Bernstein in London - he is presently writing and consulting on a full-time basis. Mark is also a regular commentator on India and outsourcing in the European press. He has recently contributed to The Financial Times, Computer Weekly, Computing and the in-house magazines of several labor unions.
