PAUL DAU

Paul Dau is a partner in the international law firm of McDermott, Will & Emery, resident in its Silicon Valley office. He is a member of the Firm’s Tax Department. Mr. Dau's practice concentrates on complex international transactions, transfer pricing and on the resolution of federal tax controversies, from pre-audit preparation through litigation.

Mr. Dau received his undergraduate education at McGill University graduating with a joint honors B.A. in Mathematics and Philosophy in 1973. He was the recipient of McGill University Fellowships, the Dow-Hickson Scholarship in the Humanities and the Prince of Wales Gold Medal in Philosophy. He received a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1980. At the University of Pittsburgh Mr. Dau was the recipient of Canada Council Fellowships and University of Pittsburgh Graduate Fellowships. He attended law school at the University of California, Davis, graduating Order of the Coif and Order of the Barrister with a J.D. in 1992. After receiving his degree, Mr. Dau was law clerk for Justice Warren Matthews at the Supreme Court of the State of Alaska.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Dau was a member of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Califonia, San Diego, for eleven years. Mr. Dau has been member of the California Bar since 1994 and regularly teaches courses in Golden Gate University’s School of Law and Graduate School of Taxation and is a frequent speaker at the Tax Executives Institute and other national organizations.
